Tender Mercies…they are real…they are part of our everyday lives. I've always said that I don't believe that Heavenly Father cares about football games but I know that he cares about people. After our loss to Northern Arizona, I prayed for a tender mercy. We couldn't end our season and the seniors football careers with that game. We were better than that. We needed one more game to prove that we were.
On Sunday morning, the selection for the FCS playoffs was being announced on TV at 10:00 am. I had a knot in my stomach all the way home from Cedar, all night long and all morning waiting for the announcement of the teams. When the selection started, they announced the automatic bid teams that would be going. Then they put up the first 4 at large teams that would be going. We weren't one of the four. I just kept praying for that tender mercy….and then they put up the next four and on the the screen was SOUTHERN UTAH UNIVERSITY! I started screaming and jumping up and down. Jordan was sleeping downstairs and ran up stairs and said, "What's the matter?" I just kept jumping up and down and saying, "We're going to the playoffs." He obviously didn't know what I was talking about and gave me a perplexed look.
We played in Houston, TX against Sam Houston State. They had been in the previous two national championship games. They are good. Bill and I were the only ones from our family that could make the trip. We played well for the first part of the game and then they took control. Griff had an awesome game…5 catches for 63 yards and a 18 yd punt return. I was so happy that he could end his career with this game. We couldn't be prouder of him!
I am so grateful that Heavenly Father hears and answers our prayers.
So grateful we could watch Griff play. He is an awesome player and an awesome son!
